Does waxing hurt?
While everyone’s pain tolerance is different, most people would characterize the feeling as a light stinging sensation. As you wax more often the hair will get finer, and it will sting less. Also, if you are concerned about the pain, taking an ibuprofen or aspirin about half an hour before your appointment will help to minimize your discomfort.
How should I prepare for waxing?
The hair you want removed should ideally be between half an inch and three quarters of an inch long – if the hair is shorter than that it will be harder to remove, and if it’s longer then the procedure will be more painful. Additionally, you should avoid sunbathing or artificial tanning for at least 24 hours before your appointment, because waxing will irritate sunburned skin. Exfoliating and moisturizing your skin can make the hair easier to remove, and if you are very worried about pain, you can take an ibuprofen or aspirin before your appointment.
